Appetite and Treesforlife Fight Back: How to Restore Oxygen after the Amazon Fires Crisis

Published by Appetite Creative

Appetite Creative has started its own Corporate Grove!

With the Amazon Fires tearing through one of our planet’s historical ecosystems, we have decided to create our own online Appetite Corporate Grove with Trees for life, in order to contribute to the sustainability and growth of our planet and encourage others to do the same!

What is our Corporate Grove?

'Appetite Creative Grove' is the name of our environmental project, in partnership with Treesforlife. With the help of Trees for Life, once a month, a tree will be planted in the Scottish Highlands on our behalf. Over time we hope to produce a beautiful, restorative woodland to contribute to our planet in a way that will keep on growing!

Carbon Offsetting

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions contribute enormously to climate change. When fossil fuels are burned, carbon that has been locked away for millions of years is released into the air, causing the Earth’s temperature to rise.

Since trees have a vital role in balancing the CO2 and Oxygen levels in our atmosphere, widespread deforestation across the world has an incredibly harmful impact on our planet, as more CO2 is released.

As a general rule of thumb, the calculation from Trees for Life is that four mature trees will offset one tonne of CO2. However, this can change depending on the species we are planting.

Jenny Stanley Managing Director:

“We were concerned that due to the international travel that the Appetite Creative team undertake, we needed to offset our carbon footprint. So we decided to plant a tree at least once a month to compensate for our emissions made largely by the number of planes myself and the Appetite team catch to meet with our clients.”

Why do we need Trees?

Trees absorb carbon dioxide and emit oxygen, thus drawing pollution out of our atmosphere. Trees also dilute the concentration of other pollutants in the air such as sulphur dioxide, ammonia, nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide. They are our natural protectors!

To put it into perspective, for every large tree destroyed, a year's supply of oxygen for 10 people is revoked. On top of which, and something that you may now be aware of, the Amazon is the source of 20% of our planet’s oxygen. Given that this supply is being ferociously consumed by fire, it is essential that we do something to reinstate it!

Without these enormous lungs, our planet would eventually cease to exist. They help to prevent flooding, significantly reduce noise pollution and have medicinal properties that aid us in our day to day life!

In addition, they are homes in the wilderness and provide us with countless fruit, vegetables and core materials that we would be lost without!

Help fight the climate crisis

By removing CO2 from the atmosphere and locking it up, trees help to combat climate change. Recent studies have found that trees may be the best way to stabilise our climate.
